But behind the unforgettable moments and iconic characters, MASH* also carried a surprising collection of continuity mistakes, hidden details, backstage stories, and emotional twists many viewers never noticed the first time around.

One of the most touching behind-the-scenes stories involved William Christopher, the actor who played Father Mulcahy. During season five, Christopher became seriously ill with hepatitis, and producers reportedly considered removing his character entirely from the series. Alan Alda, however, stepped in to help.
