Rosie O’Donnell Moves to Ireland Amid Political Concerns
Rosie O’Donnell has followed through on her vow to leave the U.S. if Donald Trump returned to power, revealing in a recent TikTok video that she relocated to Ireland on January 15 with her 12-year-old daughter, Dakota.
“It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say,” the 62-year-old comedian shared, describing the Irish people as “loving, kind, and welcoming.” She is currently seeking Irish citizenship, citing her grandparents’ Irish roots.
O’Donnell explained that moving abroad was not something she ever imagined but felt it was the best decision for herself and her daughter. “You know, I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids. I miss my friends,” she said. “I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country.”
She cited the political climate in the U.S., particularly policies enacted during Donald Trump’s first term, as a driving force behind her move. “It was both personally challenging and heartbreaking,” she stated.
Now settled in Dublin, O’Donnell says she’s been warmly received by locals and is adjusting to her new life. Though she is enjoying the change, she expressed sadness about being away from loved ones.
She concluded her message with a call for unity and justice in the U.S., saying, “When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back… I’m counting on you to do what’s right. And deep down, we all know what that is.”
