Footage of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, sharing a brief exchange during Game 4 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium has prompted fresh scrutiny of what was said between the couple, after a professional lip reader published an interpretation of the viral moment. Clips from the television broadcast on Tuesday 28 October showed the pair in the premium seats behind home plate wearing Los Angeles Dodgers caps, with the camera returning to them several times during breaks in play. In the most widely circulated sequence, Meghan leaned towards Harry and spoke while the crowd around them applauded, before the Duke replied and both turned their attention back to the field. A U.K.-based lip reader, Nicola Hickling, later reviewed the footage and said Meghan appeared to ask, “Is anyone here?” to which Harry responded, “I can’t see,” before Meghan added, “Well, look over there,” and, in a subsequent whisper, “Look, there’s one.” Hickling’s reading was presented as an expert interpretation of the couple’s unamplified exchange and framed as provisional given the angle and the speed of the interaction.

The short interaction gained traction online because the camera found the couple over multiple innings, capturing them clapping, chatting and exchanging asides as the Dodgers faced the Toronto Blue Jays. The game ended 6–2 to Toronto, tying the series at two games apiece, but much of the social-media discussion focused on how the two spoke to one another in a busy, noisy environment. In the sequence that Hickling analysed, the pair appeared to scan the bowl and point out faces in the surrounding sections. The interpretation suggested an ordinary conversation of orientation and observation—comments that would be unremarkable in any stadium, but which drew disproportionate attention because of the couple’s profile and the clarity of the broadcast close-ups.

The broadcast also captured mixed reactions in the ballpark when the couple were shown on the video board. Some spectators posted clips of cheering; others shared footage in which booing could be heard. One widely viewed video showed the stadium’s cutaway to the couple followed by an audible jeer before the scene returned to live play. In those posts, the pair maintained neutral expressions before resuming their conversations; in other brief shots they were seen smiling and applauding. The range of reactions reflected the sheer size and diversity of a 50,000-plus crowd and the split-second nature of in-game celebrity features. The noise in those clips, and the speed at which the celebrity camera cycles, formed part of the context in which any lip reading must be undertaken, given how often the camera cut back to the field and how frequently the crowd swelled and subsided.

How does Sandy end up in the second row? Maybe those are his permanent, personal seats but Sandy Koufax takes a back seat to no one. Especially at Dodger Stadium. https://t.co/UF4vNLf3ru — Howie Rose (@HowieRose) October 29, 2025
