A Wichita neighborhood was shaken on October 31, 2025, when police responding to a “reported cutting” found 80-year-old Anita Avers fatally stabbed in her Crowley Street home. Officers arrived around 7:52 a.m. and discovered Avers unresponsive in bed; she was pronounced dead shortly after at a local hospital.

Outside, police detained Angelynn “Angie” Elizabeth Mock, 47, a former Fox News anchor and Avers’s daughter. Mock was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, with bond set at $1 million. According to a neighbor, “A woman came up to our car covered in blood, asking to call 911.”

Dispatch recordings captured a female voice saying she “stabbed her mother to save herself,” though authorities have not confirmed whether this was an official self-defense claim. Investigators continue to examine motive, weapon details, and the sequence of events leading up to the killing.

Mock’s career spanned roles at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City and KTVI FOX 2 in St. Louis, along with earlier work in Montana, Nebraska, and Minnesota. In recent years, she transitioned to corporate consulting and nonprofit work before the shocking arrest.
