Family of 4 Vanishes on Road Trip Human Remains Discovered

Nearly a year after a Texas family of four vanished during a trip to Alaska, a chilling discovery has brought long-awaited answers. On May 28, 2025, Alaska State Troopers confirmed the recovery of the family’s missing boat and human remains in Kachemak Bay.

The family disappeared in August 2024 while on a cross-country adventure. After months with no leads, the case regained momentum in April 2025 when Support Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea, and Benthic Geoscience Inc. volunteered their expertise and advanced underwater scanning equipment.

Using this technology, divers located the sunken vessel nearly 180 feet below the surface of Kachemak Bay.

Between May 27 and May 28, divers recovered three sets of human remains from inside the boat. The remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and autopsies.

One family member is still missing, and the search continues.

Authorities have not released the names of the deceased until identifications are confirmed. The recovery marks a somber milestone in a case that captured national attention.

Officials expressed gratitude for the volunteer crews who made the discovery possible. Their contributions provided closure to a case that had remained a mystery for nearly a year.

The cause of the sinking remains under investigation.
