TV doctor Dr. Hilary Jones has shared essential tips for heart health — along with a serious warning about a popular habit that can double the risk of a heart attack: smoking.
“Don’t smoke — your heart hates that,” Dr. Hilary emphasized, urging people to quit for good. Smoking not only raises the risk of heart conditions but is also linked to cancer, lung disease, stroke, and even mental health issues.
Maintaining a healthy weight is equally vital. “Don’t strain it [your heart] by carrying too much weight,” he said. “Exercise it regularly — it’s a muscle — it loves a bit of exercise.”
He also warned against letting cholesterol build up in the arteries, which can “clog up” the heart over time.
Stress is another silent threat. “Life can be pretty stressful, can’t it? Constant, relentless, exhausting — but too much stress is bad for our heart,” Dr. Hilary explained. He suggests scheduling time to relax, even blocking out moments in your diary to unwind. “Your heart will love you for it,” he added.
Another crucial point: many people are walking around with high blood pressure and don’t even know it. While wearing a monitor in a video, he cautioned, “They’re at risk of something they really don’t want, like stroke or heart attack — so get yours checked soon.”
From quitting smoking and managing stress to regular exercise and blood pressure checks, Dr. Hilary’s message is clear: caring for your heart now could save your life later.
