Reports have unfolded that Sean “Diddy” Combs, the music mogul, may be in line for a commutation from Donald Trump of his federal prison sentence, though the White House has publicly dismissed those rumours as baseless.
Combs was recently sentenced to 50 months in prison after being convicted on two counts related to transporting individuals across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. He had been acquitted of more serious charges including sex‐trafficking and racketeering. As part of the sentencing, he also faces a significant fine and will be subject to several years of supervised release following his incarceration.
According to sources cited by media outlets, Combs’s legal team reached out to the Trump administration to discuss a possible commutation or pardon. Some alleged insiders claim the president is “vacillating” over whether to intervene. The suggestion is that he could act as early as this week.
However, a senior White House official stated unequivocally that the reports insinuating Trump is proceeding with a commutation are “completely fraudulent” and insisted no decision has been made. The official emphasised that any act of presidential clemency is the sole prerogative of the President, and the White House cannot confirm speculative claims.
