The devastating Texas floods over the Fourth of July weekend claimed 109 lives, with more than 117 still missing after the Guadalupe River surged 26 feet in just 45 minutes. Kerr County was among the hardest hit, with entire areas submerged and communities torn apart.
One of the most heartbreaking stories comes from siblings who received goodbye voicemails from their father, 61-year-old Jeff Ramsey, before he and his wife Tanya were swept away at the HTR RV Park in Kerrville.
Jeff, his wife, and their dog were staying in their Airstream trailer when the floodwaters struck. Knowing there was little hope, Jeff and Tanya called their loved ones. Tanya spoke to her mother, while Jeff left voicemails for his children.
Jake Ramsey, Jeff’s son, said, “He called me once he realized there was no hope. It was short. He said, ‘Buddy. I love you so much. It doesn’t look like we are going to make it. Tell Rachey I love her.’” The sound of rushing water was clearly audible in the background.
