Waking up several times during the night to urinate — a condition known medically as nocturia — affects millions of people worldwide. While occasional nighttime urination is normal, frequent awakenings can seriously affect sleep quality, energy levels, mood, and overall health.

Recently, many viral health posts have claimed that a single “miracle food” eaten before bed can completely stop nighttime bathroom trips. Medical experts warn that these claims are often exaggerated. However, certain foods and eating habits may indeed help support better bladder function and sleep quality in some individuals.

One food frequently discussed in sleep and bladder health conversations is the banana because of its potassium and magnesium content. Other foods rich in magnesium, melatonin-supporting nutrients, or calming compounds may also play a role.

Nocturia refers to waking during the night one or more times to urinate.

Although common with aging, doctors explain that frequent nighttime urination is not always “normal,” especially if it significantly disrupts sleep.
